2022.01.28 22:50 GhostGurlfriend How to respond to guilt tripping?
My (f26) dad (m53) contributed to a lot of abuse in my teenager years. Directly and indirectly. My step mother who he allowed to physically and mentally assault and abuse me ended up cheating on him and leaving him (about 2 yrs ago) and I decided to work on forgiving him after he told her when she tried to come back that he was done and wanted to work on fixing our relationship.
Well bc of the abuse I have developed mental health issues with depression and anxiety and BPD as well. When I get in a slump I tend to isolate myself. I’m also a mother of 2 and work. So I’m tired a lot. I’m also just recovering from having COVID for the last 2 weeks. Well my dad has messaged me within the last week and has kind been guilt tripping me for being mia. Saying stuff like “well I guess I will talk to ya in February” acting like we only talk once a month (not true just this month has been tiring) and even though he knows I’ve been sick.
I also feel like he is over stepping by being like that. A lot of the reasons I retreat and isolate myself off is because I got so used to doing that as a teenager because of everything him and his ex wife put me through.
I don’t even know if talking about it will do anything bc he will take it as me being argumentative. He is a great grandpa to my daughters and despite these instances we get along fine. I’m just wondering what would be the best way to deal with this when it happens? What would you do?
Also sorry for spelling and structure I’m on mobile.

The world could lose half of its best coffee-growing land under a moderate climate change scenario. Brazil, which is the currently world’s largest coffee producer, will see its most suitable coffee-growing land decline by 79%.

2022.01.28 22:50 throwaway193648392 The idea of death and the cessation of existence is so terrifying for Humans that we created the ‘Afterlife’ as a coping mechanism.
I dont want to hear the, “But im not afraid of death and im an atheist,” we get it. Im talking about it in a historical and instinctual context.
We as humans fear the unknown naturally, and we dont know what happens after a person dies and we cant ask the people who die what they are experiencing. Thus as a coping mechanism, we created the Idea of the Afterlife, as a logical answer to the question of “what happens after we die?”
You might think that the idea of death isn’t scary to you because you might be young or have many years ahead until your death but once you get to that stage where you are very old (Im talking 70’s-80’s), you might not want to let go of this life, thats assuming that life is treating you well of course. Because some people (who have been dealt the wrong cards) might see death as an escape, but thats beside the point.
Many old people that I know become very religious at that age, to whichever religion they follow. Logically as a hope, that when they pass, thats not the end of their journey. Alright, Im ready for the downvotes.

2022.01.28 22:50 Turtleman951 Have two job offers- one as OR support and one as ER Tech, will apply to med school next June.
Was hoping for some advice or insight as to which job would be better for someone applying to become a surgeon.
On one hand, I'll be working with all of the surgical tools, building case carts, SPD, and working with advanced surgery robotics.
But as an ER tech I would be getting clinical experience.
I think I'd rather do the OR support (it is with a company that works inside a hospital) but I have no clue if that would hold any value on an application as opposed to the patient care of the ER. Thanks in advance for your input1

2022.01.28 22:50 Neither-Astronaut807 mental health
Hey fellow chs sufferers. I am 90 days sober yesterday and am just really really struggling mentally. i don’t want to smoke or anything, but i just feel really alone and sad. i’ve been taking my anti depressants for a while (around one year) and never really felt sad after taking them and smoking a lot but i find that being sober and dealing with these emotions really hurts. i’m not suicidal, i just feel super sad and tired and every little thing is only making me feel sadder. was wondering if anyone had ANY tips at all to help cope with emotions when sober because i’m still adjusting to not smoking when i feel sad or depressed. having to deal with these emotions without knowing how to cope in a healthy way has been a big struggle of mine. i just wanna get to tonight so i can sleep forever.

2022.01.28 22:50 Unlikely-Card-1814 Above ground pool
I am buying a house which has an above the ground pool and I have no idea how to maintain it, heck I can't even swim but my kids are half merman so they are definitely excited.
How difficult is it to maintain an above ground pool? Can I just hire someone who can come periodically to do whatever needs to be done? how expensive the maintenance will be? Does the water need to be changed often? it's a big pool so will it impact my watesewer expense considerably.

2022.01.28 22:50 GlutenFreePastor Pallet bed build?
I'm working to build a removable bed frame for my Toyota Sienna 2008 minivan (AKA I'm NOT going full conversion yet). I'm going to take it on a 10 day trip over spring break and then for a bunch of shorter trips over the summer in the Boundary Waters where I'm working - and potentially hoping to live in it for my last semester of college, too, so I don't have to pay rent/student housing.
I was originally planning on putting a piece of plywood on top of heavy duty storage bins, but then I decided to spend a little more time and build a real frame. I'm getting help from my boss who has his masters in carpentry and fine arts (dope guy) so I can probably make it pretty clean.
I found a stack of 85L x 28W" (eyeballed measurements) pallets in really good condition that my school was getting rid of. My bed build was going to be 78 x 28" so this seems like a godsend if I can figure out a way to use them. Ideally there would be room for some kind of storage under the bed, so I'd need to raise it up on legs or make plywood siding or something.
Keep in mind I'm a college student so I'm not gonna drop $200 on lumber and I'd prefer to use what I already have or can find for free.
Any tips, photos, experiences you have? Is building a bed frame out of a pallet or two + other random plywood and 2x4s I have laying around feasible? Would it work? What other options should I consider?

2022.01.28 22:50 Careful-Anxiety8728 What direction facing balcony is the best?
I appreciate any advice, I'm new to gardening in general. I've been living in some pretty dark apartments for the past decade, but in July I'm moving into a much better apartment with lots of natural light and a balcony. I live in central Indiana (USA zone 6) and I have my pick of a an apartment in a few different buildings. What direction should I try to get my balcony facing for optimal sunlight? As South facing as possible? Thanks again for any noob tips.

2022.01.28 22:50 phantompanther Insurance's efforts to manage diabetes
What's some interesting things your insurance company has done to try to manage your diabetes for you to lower their costs?
In the past, other companies have had nurses call me and want to talk regularly. I just tell them I am not interested because I see my endo every quarter and I have been diabetic since I was 11 years old so my care is really adequate. I have a good A1C and no complications so... I don't need your nurse to call me. They would call again in a few weeks anyway.
But the best one I have had yet is from my current insurance. They sent me a letter saying they were sending me a free meter (strips not free) that sends my blood sugars to their doctors. And someone will follow up with me about tips for controlling my blood sugars. And, to sell my data, I am sure.
I probably check my blood sugar once a month or less by meter, because I use a Dexcom CGM, that the same insurance pays for. I will absolutely never ever use that meter no matter what on principle now.
Thought maybe some of you might have some entertaining stories to share!

2022.01.28 22:50 wanderingdust To the guys struggling to get matches, this is what worked for me.
I started going to the gym every single day, eating a ton of protein, changed my diet and took better pics. Made a huge difference.
It is very competitive out there. Guys are swiping right on every profile and a lot of the guys are in great shape and good looking. A lot of them will hook up with average looking women too.
I’ve gone on a few dates and even the ones I wasn’t physically attracted to told me that all the guys they were going out with had a lot of muscle. Physique is important.
