2021.11.29 17:40 _lavendell Trying to find a cardiologist. Where to start?
Hey all, I need some advice from others in a similar boat. I'm 23, I was born with a congenital heart defect (pulmonary atresia and double inlet left ventricle are what it says on my records) and due to parental medical neglect I haven't seen a cardiologist in over 10 years. I'll save the sob story, but the tl;dr version is that my parents severely downplayed the seriousness of my condition as a kid, going so far as straight up lying to me, and stopped taking me to a cardiologist because it wasn't "necessary."
Now, I'm on my own insurance and trying to find out as much as I can so I can get the right kind of care. Problem is I have no idea where to start. Apologies for any potential stupid questions. Do I need to see a specialized cardiologist for this or will any do? How have you navigated getting care as an adult? Much thanks x

2021.11.29 17:40 amtap WSIB if I enjoy RPGs with in-depth characters?
There's nothing I hate more than a silent protagonist in an otherwise good game. I don't care about feeling immersed or that I'm taking on the role of the protag, I just want to watch a good story unfold with complicated characters. At least some voice acting is strongly preferred. I also prefer action RPGs over turn-based but can make an exception if the combat is deep enough. Games where you create your own character or have significant control over the story are not preferred for this scenario. Cutscene-heavy is totally fine but there needs to be some combat (no visual novels please). Most importantly I don't want a purely good hero and a purely evil villain, some characters need to be more complicated than that and develop over the course of the story. PC or Switch preferred.
Games I love that do this well:

2021.11.29 17:40 my_pets_names How long does it take for Goodsmile US preorders to arrive after they release in Japan?
I know that the confirmed release dates are for Japan and it takes longer for them to reach the US. Is it about a month like it usually takes BBTS and the like?

2021.11.29 17:40 JaceHardware Aaaaaaand this platform is dead to me
For better or for worse I have spent a large part of 12+ years on this platform but now it’s dead to me.
I noticed the hidden dislike counter just a few minutes ago after some curiosity compelled me to check the ratio on Netflix’s trailer for Cuties – which for some godforsaken reason is still on the platform. I think I had access to the public counter longer than most, but now it’s gone (maybe truly for everyone this time).
I’m surprised by how genuinely upset this change has made me for a full 2ish weeks now. On the surface it’s small but I guess I’m really worried about its implications on the future of media in general. This platform was effectively my childhood, but I guess it’s time to disconnect, grow up, and move on.
Trash like the Cuties trailer is precisely why most of us were so upset with the dislike change, and it’s ironic that I finally noticed YouTube’s biggest mistake when reminded of Netflix’s biggest mistake.

2021.11.29 17:40 CosmiciNervi I see it now...
I don't know how I was blind to it before. Ever since joining the sub I see it everywhere now. You see, I've had the amazing opportunity to be gainfully self employed, it's going great for me. But... Part of my job is going to other places of business. The other day I had the pleasure of meeting/talking to one of the many problems of capitalism. It went like this:
Me- Hi, how's your day going? :)
Them- Not too well, I'm working a 12 hr shift on a skeleton crew :(
Me- Oh dang, I'm sorry. That's never fun.
Them- Nope! It's just crazy, we've only been able to hire a few teenagers and we even raised the hiring pay to $13/hr!!
Them- Yup, but that's not our fault. People just don't want to work these days, oh well.
Them- So how's your gig going? You looking for a part time job..?
Me- No thanks, bye!
Mind you the entire time I wanted to break my stoic professionalism and let this Karen Manager know that nobody wants to work ~there~ in a dusty old Burger King with a bunch of teenagers for a WHOLE $13/HR!
Especially not me!! When I make twice that pay, work on my own, with my own schedule, and do a lot of what I want during my shift. And I love working! I went from being exhausted with a 40 hr work week at my "normal job" to now working 60 hrs a week excited for everyday.
People want to work. They just don't want to be miserable. Who would've guessed?

2021.11.29 17:40 ab_j Consent a defense in cases of assault, battery, and false imprisonment?
A & B go to a nightclub where the club owners are organizing a 'beatdown contest' without a Liscence, A gives consent to participate in the contest, however, chooses to back out upon seeing his opponent. The bouncers push him back and and tell him that he must fight till he knocks out his opponent. His friend B looks on and feels powerless to help A. A gets beaten badly and has to be pulled out of the fight. Later A & B decide to sue. What can the possible torts be in this case?
As A gave his consent to someone to assault and batter him, physically restraint him (false imprisonment) can A take him to court later for battery? Or is the defence of consent applicable here? Also, what about Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress? Can A or even B claim that?
Thanks in advance.

2021.11.29 17:40 Strawberry_flower13 Past relationship making me afraid that I’ll get hurt again how do I get over this?
I was hanging out with my boyfriend earlier and we were just hanging out eating and talking. We watched tv on the couch and then we ended up kissing. We were laying down on the couch and I pulled away at one point and he asked what was wrong. I started remembering how my ex broke up with me bc I don’t want to have sex and I got scared for a second. I told him that I didn’t want to have sex and he said okay that he didn’t want to but I didn’t want him to get turned on.

2021.11.29 17:40 moistbread82 How to care for blind Betta?
Just did some testing and found out our new betta is blind. He doesn't react to anything and bumps into everything. How should we go about feeding him? Do you think he should go back in the tank or should we get him his own tank?? Sidenote he doesn't seem to want to eat things we dangle in front of him with tongs, and when I sprinkle food (rn I'm just trying to use frozen brine shrimp bc I have a surplus) right on top of him he doesn't react.

2021.11.29 17:40 shakeyshake1 Online slot play taxation
So online slots are now legal in several states. I'm not sure how long they've been legal in the various states, but it was just legalized in my state this year. It used to be you'd go to the regular casino and if you won something like $1200 or more, you'd get a 1099-G for it. With online slots, you don't.
How is playing online slots going to look for tax purposes? I have no idea how it will be reported or anything. There are tons of little wins and infrequent large ones.
So let's say you play $100 each on 3 days and your results are this:
Day 1: Deposit $100, win $1,000 in small increments of $0.50 or $1.00, ultimately lose it all including your starting money, net -$100
Day 2: Deposit $100, win $2,900 in one spin, cash out $3,000, net $2,900
Day 3: Deposit $100, lose $100 with no wins, net $-100
After 3 days, you've deposited $300, lost $200 in deposited cash, lost $1,200 total (losing the wins on day one, plus the $100 deposit on day 1, plus the $100 deposit on day 3), won $3,900, won a jackpot of $2,900, and the net is $2,700.
When this is reported to the IRS by the online casino, I imagine a couple different scenarios. We'll assume that the taxpayer can itemize the losses to the extent of gains (ignore the standard deduction threshold).
Scenario 1 - $2,900 is reported to the IRS for the large jackpot win on Day 2.
Scenario 2 - $3,900 is reported to the IRS for ALL wins, including the nominal wins adding up to $1,000 on day 1.
Scenario 3 - They someone report it as a session over a day, week, month, or year showing the net deposits, net withdrawals, and the net gain.
Then for losses, you'd have two possible scenarios for scenarios 1 or 2 above--either you can write off $200 for days 1 and 3, or you can write off $100 for day 3 and write off all the little losses on day 1 that would have added up to $1,100 (since there were $1,000 in wins and the person also lost their initial $100).
If someone plays frequently and never actually cashes out any wins, you could theoretically have a situation where someone deposits a total of $5,000, has $300,000 in total wins if you add up all the little $1.00 wins that keep them playing, has $15,000 in wins that were $1,200 or more and they could ultimately lose the entire $5,000. So basically they start with $5,000, a bunch of stuff happens, and then they end up with $0.
Anyone have any idea how this works? No need to address any of the scenarios I listed above, those are just my guesses as to how it could potentially work.
